Hi! My name is Marina.

I was born in Valencia, Spain and have been a squash lover and player ever since, at the age of 10, my dad took me to one of his Tuesday-night league matches, and I first stepped on court

Rapidly, I became part of the Valencian squash community. Since I wasn’t old enough to play at their events, I would just convince one of the community members to play some rallies with me in the 90-second break between games. The more I played, the more obsessed I became.

At the time, I was playing both tennis and squash, but then I decided to specialize and give squash my all. That led me to compete nationally in the junior tour, then in the European circuit, and then as a professional player touring the world.

My Coaching Career

I have been instructing squash since I was 16, helping with the juniors at my home club in Valencia, Spain. Eventually, I moved to Cleveland, OH, to work as a Squash Director at Urban Squash Cleveland. After 2 years, I transitioned to the Cleveland Racquet Club and worked alongside my coach and mentor Joe Russell for 7 years.

With more than 100 juniors and 80 adults participating in our program throughout the years, I got to work with many different levels and commitment levels. From one-on-one lessons with 4-year-olds to match-play practice with 75-year-olds, I got to explore the different needs of a squash player throughout their squash journey.

My Education

I went to college at Universitat de Valencia for Sport Science and hold a Master’s degree in Sports Management and Events. I studied a year abroad in the UK, at the Cardiff Metropolitan University, where I competed as a #2 player in their team.

Currently, I am pursuing another Master's degree in Education, to be able to teach in high school, apprenticeship programs and university-level courses.

I speak fluent Spanish, fluent English, and a very broken Spanglish when needed! I am also learning Catalan as a third language.
